The herpes simplex virus is of two types – HSV-1 and HSV-2. HSV-2 usually causes genital herpes. Generally there are little or no signs of this infection. If there are signs, it is usually in the form of blisters around or on the rectum or the genitals. Once the blisters break, the tender and painful sores can take up to four weeks to heal. The blisters can re-occur accompanied by flu and swollen glands. Usually genital herpes is caused by sexual contact with an infected person. STD tests like a simple herpes test can identify and cure this disease. ‘HerpesSelect’ blood test is recommended by the CDC and looks specifically for the HSV-2 (genital herpes) antibodies. A blood sample is required for this test. A phlebotomist will draw the required sample. Advance preparation is not required for this test. Since a professional should take the blood sample, there are no at-home kits available for this test. The results can be available as quickly as 24 hours – 3 days after testing. These results can be viewed online also. While anti-viral drugs can treat herpes, Aloe Vera is said to be very effective against genital herpes. Look for std testing options available for herpes and select a suitable one.
